James McClean showered praise on a Wrexham teammate after Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's side closed in on Birmingham by crushing Northampton 4-1.

Riding on a brace from McClean and goals from Jack Marriott and Elliot Lee, the Red Dragons ran riot against Northampton. However, the architect behind the four goals was none other than – Ryan Barnett.

Barnett ran riot in the wide areas with his exceptional crossing causing trouble for Northampton's defence. McClean's opener and Lee's third were assisted by Barnett while the full-back played key roles in the two other goals which led McClean to hail his performance as a "masterclass".

Wrexham are just two points behind leaders Birmingham after their latest victory, albeit having played a match more. They will be back in action in an EFL Trophy clash with Wolves Under-21s on Tuesday night before refocussing on League Two with fixtures against Rotherham and Huddersfield in quick succession.
