The French striker and the Portuguese coach were both in attendance to watch Anthony Joshua beat Francis Ngannou in the showdown boxing match in Saudi Arabia on Friday evening. Mourinho stood waiting on his former charge and gave him a big hug, followed by a brief exchange of words.

The pair spent three years together in Madrid as Mourinho was appointed head coach a year after Benzema moved to the Spanish capital from Lyon. They won La Liga, the Copa del Rey and Supercopa de Espana in that time and reached three Champions League semi-finals.

Benzema left Madrid last year to move to Saudi Arabia, joining reigning league champions Al-Ittihad. However, his spell at the Middle East club has not gone smoothly as he has been involved in a constant feud with the club.
